Johann Arens (Rome Fellow in Contemporary Art, October-December 2013) is based in London and Amsterdam, where he will be resident of Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in 2014.  Recent solo exhibitions include Paradise Row, London; ASC Gallery, London; Service Garage, Amsterdam, and public commissions for Arnolfini / Art Public Realm Bristol and Jerwood Foundation.

Arens employs the language of both sculpture and film to draw a direct comparison between visual culture and actual social space. His works are set in institutional and scientific work environments, domestic interiors or computer-generated landscapes and function as a structural analysis of our historic situation and public behaviour at large.
