This year’s events programme at the BSR began by welcoming back former Creative Scotland document Fellow Felix Davey for the opening of his ongoing exhibition Possible Encounters. This work, made during Felix’s residency at the BSR, builds a poignant narrative in weaving together photographic portraits, still lifes and dedicated landscapes. Felix came to the BSR in January 2013, and spent much of his time getting to know Rome through the people he met around the city.
Having spent the last five years travelling and working on itinerant projects in places as diverse as China, Iran, Northern Canada and the Outer Hebrides, Rome provided Felix with the time and space to open up his practice. He used the opportunity to make work around ideas of time, family, intimacy, personal environment and the act of thinking.
Felix now lives and works in New York. http://www.felixdavey.com
The exhibition Possible Encounters opened on the occasion of the ninth edition of the Giornata del Contemporaneo organised by the AMACI (Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums), as part of the 2013 edition of the FotoGrafia Festivale Internazionale di Roma. As part of this festival, the BSR was also delighted to host the conference ‘Come pensare per immagini? Luigi Ghirri e la fotografia – How to think in images? Luigi Ghirri and photography’ on 9 October, under the patronage of the Regional Government of Emilia Romagna, the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, the Biblioteca Panizzi, the Society for Italian Studies, and in collaboration with the MAXXI. The conference coincided with the MAXXI’s exhibition Luigi Ghirri. Pensare per immagini.
The exhibition Possible Encounters runs until 31 October at the BSR http://bit.ly/16spgVQ
